College Lessons and Things

College Lesson #27: Learn to Be Alone

I know I have said a lot about the importance of getting involved and having friends and all that. But college is about learning who you are and as important as all those things are, if you don’t spend any time alone, you will lose yourself in the hustle. I know it sounds rough, spending time alone. But it isn’t. Sometimes you just need you time. Here are some suggestions:

  1. Eat some chocolate (or something equally delicious).
  2. Read a book.
  3. Watch a movie.
  4. Write a letter.
  5. Write a poem.
  6. Take a nap.
  7. Pray.
  8. Do that thing that you’ve been meaning to start.

Learning to be alone is part of it all too. We can’t be defined by those around us. We have to know who we are are, what our values are, what is important or we will fall victim to society and all of those things that it believes about us. And that isn’t a good view. If we know all these things, and we are sure about them, society won’t change our opinions and we can really enjoy our time with out friends.
